ten years old

Last week Riley celebrated her 10th birthday.  I have definitely become the mom who can't believe how fast time flies.  It feels like just yesterday that I was convinced my kids would be toddlers forever.  And now we have a 10 year old.

Riley is pretty much the most amazing 10 year old around.  We don't deserve her.  She is so mature and wise for her age and loves people well.  We are so thankful that she is our first born and that our other kids have someone of such character to look up to.

Riley decided to take a few friends to lunch and a movie for her birthday party.  She really wanted to see a certain movie, so we waited to have her party until the movie was supposed to be released.  Note the word "supposed."  I got my information from Yahoo Peru.  In fact, the opening of this movie was the top story on their movie front page.

Preview of “Princesa Por Accidente”
Did the movie actually open on this day?  Nope.  Not in any theater in Lima.  So we ended up going to the only other appropriate movie showing- Smurfs.

The day of the party our car got a flat tire.  Our spare isn't very trustworthy, so Blake had to take the car into the shop to get the tire fixed.  He made it very clear to the mechanic that he needed the car at 3 o'clock and the mechanic said that would be no problem.  {Obviously we're new here for believing that.} Twenty minutes before I was supposed (there goes that word again) to pick up the girls from school for the party, I got a call from Blake saying the car was, in fact, not going to be ready.

But the good news was that the mechanic was going to let us borrow a car.  Also the car was a stick shift, so Blake would have to be our chauffeur.

One year ago my jaw would have hit the floor if Blake had pulled up in the following car.  Today, it just seems normal.  It sort of freaks me out how right it felt to be driving this car for Riley's birthday party.

Some people get limousines for birthday parties.  We get old school buses.  Only the best for our girl.

Thankfully, the rest of the party went on without a hitch.  Riley had a blast which means the world to Blake and me right now.
