semana santa

Last week was "Semana Santa" or "Holy Week" in Peru. The city shuts down: school is out, businesses are closed, traffic is almost nonexistent and it is eerily quiet. For our Semana Santa, we were lucky enough to have a visit from one of our favorite people- Bree. That meant lots of fun, fellowship, and good times. Bree is awesome about taking pictures, so here is a photo recap.

Bree brought lots of goodies from the United States including toys, food (powdered doughnuts!), magazines, books, and medicine.

It was my birthday, so Bree made cake with the kiddos.

And then the cake was gone and it was time for bed.

(Please ignore our matching outfits. Totally unplanned and no one felt like changing once we realized our mistake.)

Bree, Stephanie, and I ate at a restaurant set in the ruins (which are not Incan, but pre-Incan ruins as we learned on the tour).

We celebrated the Day of Resurrection. (No Easter holiday here.)

The kids.

Tyler likes to steal Ford's lunch box. She hides outside hoping no one will find her.

Bree and I had girl's night with Riley.

I finally chopped my hair off and got new glasses. I have never worn glasses before (only contacts), but the air here is so smoggy that I can't stand to have contacts in for very long. I also had to do the eye exam in Spanish which was fun.

I took Bree to Villa Maria for an exercise class.

Then we climbed to the top of a tiny, yet steep mountain.

For our last night with Bree, we enjoyed a nice Italian meal.

And this kid posed for one last picture.
